Easy as apple pie – isn’t that what they say?! If not, let’s pretend they do and carry on with this simple yet stunning apple pie recipe. Pie crust has been known to intimate a many but this one comes together in a food processor with the literal press of a button. The trick is keeping the butter and water and cold as possible. That’s what gives you the wonderful flakiness that an all-star apple pie crust should have.

 

And as for the filling, all you have to do is combine the ingredients together and dump into the prepared pie dish. See…I told you it’s easy. Now here’s where you can get as simple or as fancy as you desire. You can roll out that top pie pastry and place it on top with a few vents and voila you got yourself a delicious apple pie or you can get a bit creative and weave the top for a lattice effect and with some festive cutout pastry hearts.

 

Pie is great and all but let’s take it to the next level with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh whip cream. Top it off with Sprinkle Pop’s “Heart’s Desire” mix and you’ve got yourself an apple pie that was literally “easy as apple pie.”

Ingredients

  • 5 apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour

Pie Crust

Instructions

  • Combine flour, butter, shortening, salt in a food processor. Pour in water until dough comes together. Shape into two disks. Wrap each and place in the refrigerator for about an hour. 

  • Roll out the first half and place in a pie dish. 


  •  

    Mix all ingredients for the apple filling and place into the pie dish as well.

  • Roll out the second half. Cut strips for a lattice weave and use a cookie cutter for the heart shapes.

  • Trim off the excess dough around the sides. Bake in a 350 degree oven for an hour or until browned.  Cool on a wire rack. Top with sprinkles!
