Directions
For The Cake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
Combine the Duncan Hines Devil's Food Cake Mix, eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and cherry pie filling in a large mixing bowl. Mix until well combined.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For The Whipped Cream Frosting
In a chilled mixing bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Continue whipping until stiff peaks form.
Assemble & Decorate
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream over the cake. Add the second cake layer on top and cover the entire cake with whipped cream. Repeat with the third layer.
Coat the sides of the cake in Pink Velvet Sprinkle Mix for a colorful and textured appearance.
Melt the chocolate chips with heavy cream to create a chocolate drip. Allow it to slightly cool before drizzling it over the top of the cake with a spoon. Allow chocolate to drip over the edges of the cake.
Pipe a shell border at the base and on top of the cake using additional whipped cream. Finish the decoration by placing Maraschino cherries on top
Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld. Slice and enjoy your Pink Velvet Sprinkle Black Forest Cake!
Recipe Note
Liz's Tips:
For achieving the perfect sprinkle coating on your cake, I suggest thoroughly chilling it before starting the decoration process, with a minimum chill time of 2-3 hours. Position your cake on a pedestal, and the pedestal on a jelly roll pan. To maintain even more control over the sprinkles, consider placing the jelly roll pan on a large towel to catch any rogue sprinkles.
