This unique St. Paddy's Day recipe is perfect for our Nutella lovers and is absolutely delicious so we couldn't resist sharing! This minimal effort dessert using store bought dough is perfect for any get together. The recipe below yields about 12 pastries so double it or half it to your liking. Enjoy!
For the Pastries:
1 package of store-bought puff pastry dough (thawed according to package instructions)
1 cup Nutella (or any chocolate hazelnut spread)
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 bottle of SprinklePop’s Leprechaun Loot sprinkle mix!
For the Light Green Frosting:
2 cups powdered sugar
2-4 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Green food coloring (start with 2 drops and adjust for desired color)
Instructions:
Preparing the Pastries:
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Prepare the Dough: Unroll the thawed puff pastry dough on a lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, slightly roll out the dough to even out any creases.
Cut the Dough: Cut the dough into rectangles. Depending on the size of your puff pastry sheets, aim for 24 rectangles (two per pastry, one for the bottom and one for the top). A good size is about 3x4 inches each.
Add Nutella Filling: Place half of the rectangles on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced out. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of Nutella onto the center of each rectangle, leaving a small border around the edges.
Seal the Pastries: Place the remaining rectangles on top of the Nutella-filled pieces. Use a fork to crimp and seal the edges of the pastries.
Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg. Brush the top of each pastry lightly with the egg wash. This will give the pastries a golden color when baked.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed up and golden brown. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Preparing the Light Green Frosting:
Mix the Frosting: In a medium bowl, combine the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth. If the frosting is too thick, add more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach a spreadable consistency.
Color the Frosting: Add 2 drops of green food coloring to the frosting and mix well. Adjust the color by adding more drops one at a time, until you achieve the desired light green color.
Decorate: Once the pastries have cooled, use a spoon or a piping bag to drizzle or spread the light green frosting over the top of each pastry.
Serving: Allow the frosting to set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious St. Patty's treat!
